What is a futures prop firm?

A futures prop firm (short for futures proprietary trading firm) provides traders with access to company-funded trading accounts. Instead of trading a large personal account, traders demonstrate their skills by meeting the firm’s evaluation requirements. Once they qualify, they trade the firm’s capital and receive a share of the profits, subject to the firm’s rules and payout structure.

Futures prop firms typically support markets such as equity index futures, energy futures, metals, agricultural products, and other exchange-traded futures contracts. Each firm sets its own evaluation process, risk management rules, profit split, and payout policies.
