You just closed your best week in months. You open the payout screen, type the number, and Topstep’s system politely informs you the maximum is $2,000. The rest of your profit stays behind until the next window. That moment is why “topstep payout cap” became one of the most-searched phrases in prop trading this year.
What the Topstep payout cap actually is
Topstep changed its payout policy in January 2026. On a new $50K Standard path account, payout requests cap at $2,000 each. The Consistency path runs higher, around $3,000 per request. Legacy accounts had a $5,000 first payout, then $6,000. There is an escape hatch: Topstep’s Live Funded tier has no payout caps and allows daily withdrawals after 30 winning days. Getting there is the catch — only 0.71% of accounts reached Live Funded in 2025.
Let’s be straight: every firm caps payouts, including us
Funded Futures Family caps payouts too. Each plan publishes a per-payout maximum by account size — from $600 on a Velocity Daily 25K to $4,000 on a Prime 150K from the second payout on — plus a $100K total payout cap per user. Every number is public on the FFF payout & trading rules page, sourced straight from the Help Center.
So the honest question isn’t “capped or uncapped.” It’s which cap structure gets money into your account faster, and what surrounds the cap. That’s where the two firms genuinely differ.
Same caps question, different answers
| Topstep (new $50K, 2026) | FFF | |
|---|---|---|
| Per-payout max | $2,000 (Standard) / ~$3,000 (Consistency path) | Scales by plan, size, and payout number — up to $4,000 |
| Approval | Standard processing | Instant; with Rise verification done, funds land within a few hours |
| Fastest cadence | Path-dependent windows | Velocity Daily Add-On: no waiting period between payouts |
| Daily loss limit | $1K/$2K/$3K by size on funded | None, on any plan |
| Activation fee | $149 | $0 |
| Profit split | 90/10 from the first dollar | 90/10 from the first dollar |
Notice the split row: since January 2026 both firms pay 90/10 from dollar one, so the split is a wash. What’s not a wash is everything around it. A $149 activation fee before your first withdrawal. A daily loss limit that can end a funded account on one whipsaw — a rule FFF simply doesn’t have. And approval speed, where “instant, in your Rise account within hours” and “standard processing” are different worlds when rent is due. See how fast FFF payouts actually land.
If you’re capped at Topstep right now
Three real options. If you’re grandfathered into the pre-January 2026 profit split (100% of your first $10,000), it may be worth extracting what you can before moving. If you’re close to Live Funded, that tier removes the caps — but be honest with yourself about the 30 winning days and the 0.71% who made it in 2025. And if neither applies, compare structures and switch: nothing transfers, but a Prime or Premier Plus FastPass evaluation can be passed in a single trading day.
Two codes if you make the move: FFF for the best switch discount on evaluations, or first50 for 50% off your first account plus a $250 bonus on your first payout.

Frequently asked questions
Does Topstep still cap payouts in 2026?
Yes. New $50K Standard accounts cap at $2,000 per request, the Consistency path around $3,000, and legacy accounts at $5,000 first then $6,000. Only the Live Funded tier is uncapped, reached by 0.71% of accounts in 2025.
